The Guardians

The herons in this gorgeous relief depicting two herons on the wall of an old building reminded me of two ancient beings guarding the entryway, which inspired me to make this artwork feel like something that will bring protective energy into whatever space it’s placed in; the pieces can be laid out in a variety of different ways, from the composition in the below picture, to the herons on opposite sides of a doorway, or in different rooms entirely.

The original relief can be found on Liisankatu street in Helsinki.

Size: Approx. 80 cm x 50 cm / 31 inches x 20 inches (when laid out as in the composition below)

To imitate the stony nature of the inspirational relief, I opted out of colours and chose a transparent glaze with a subtle crackle effect, while some parts were left unglazed for contrast.

The 12 Amigos

SOLD

I wanted to bring the vague bird shapes in this old metal gate to life and create an artwork depicting a group of little birds perched in a line.

The artwork consists of three separate parts, each measuring 33 cm (13 inches) in length and portraying four birds.

My initial idea regarding the placement of this piece was on a wall, perhaps over a doorway — like birds perched on a tree branch or power line. However, the buyer had the lovely idea of placing it between the panes of one of the windows in their home, where these amigos can spend their days enjoying the views.

Floriography

These decorative tiles can be portrayed as art pieces on a wall individually, used for covering larger surface areas or e.g. be customized with numbers to work as house number signs. Personalized messages can also be requested to be written on the back.

So far I’ve designed tiles depicting various types of flowers such as orchids, chrysanthemums, forget-me-nots, gerberas and tulips, and I’ll be happy to create new designs via commission.
